ABOUT THE CENTER

The Center for Hazards Research and Policy
Development (CHR) is a research unit at the
University of Louisville that advances
community resilience by connecting disaster
research to practice.

In operation for over 20 years, CHR integrates the skills
of urban planners, engineers, natural scientists, and
social scientists to solve the challenges presented by
hazards to communities and their built environments.

We conduct field-tested research and resiliency
planning projects ranging across a broad spectrum of
issues, all for the purpose of strengthening disaster
management at local, state, federal, and international
levels.

STAFF & RESOURCES

CHR has the staff and resources to enhance community
resiliency, from geospatial analysis, plan development,

Community Planning Series for Disease Preparedness

During the 2008 H1N1 outbreak, CHR led the charge to produce guidance for local KY communities to conduct a planning series for pandemic flu preparedness.  This facilitator guide empowers and equips communities to conduct a series of multi-sector collaborative plan development sessions.  Given the more recent outbreak activity of the Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever and potential threat to the U.S.,  it is an opportune time to revisit the guidance that is out there to help communities better prepare.
